Take part in the walk or cycle on Saturday 25th September to help raise vital funds and awareness for local children’s charity.
A group of staff who work in the care system with young people have chosen to organise a sponsored walk or ride to raise vital funds and drive awareness for children’s charity Sports Connections Foundation (SCF). The event will start at 11am from The Boat Inn, 2 Ramsey Road, Whittlesey, PE7 1DR and finish at Peterborough United’s stadium car park. This is a 6.1 mile route with supporters also having the option to walk or cycle back to Whittlesey from Peterborough to complete a 12.2 mile route.
Established in 2010, Sports Connections Foundation is a children’s charity that uses sport to inspire, empower, educate and transform the lives of young people and are proud to have engaged with over 550,000 children and young people. Based in Peterborough but helping children throughout the UK and internationally, the charity is committed to raising aspirations and creating role models for the next generation whilst providing exciting exit routes and transforming communities. SCF run various programmes including Sporting Wishes for children facing life-threatening illnesses, developing positive futures and mentoring disadvantaged children through the Inspire Through Sport programme and raising aspirations and building resilience through the ProKick Schools Challenge.
The pandemic has been particularly tough for young people with many who were already feeling isolated or suffering from poor mental health being unable to access support over the last 18 months. As a result, funds raised from the event will be vital for Sports Connections Foundation to support and inspire disadvantaged and vulnerable young people.
Jo Seymour, one of the event organisers said: “A group of carers decided to organise a sponsored event to help raise funds for a local charity. We work with children from a variety of backgrounds and it seemed logical to look at a local children’s charities. Sports Connections Foundation is a Peterborough based charity which helps children and young people through the positive use of sport. They have done amazing work since it started in 2010 and helped over 550,000 children and young people, but not many people are not aware of this charity and the work they do. For this charity to continue to flourish we are asking that anyone that is able to walk or cycle join us in participating in this event to help support this charity because without charities like this, children and young people cannot benefit from the charities positive influence and create positive futures”.
