A Peterborough based children’s charity, which aims to inspire and transform young people’s lives through sport, has appointed a new ambassador - Invictus Games champion Kimberley Sterling.
Kimberley, who won four gold medals at the event in 2014, is an army medic who went through extensive rehabilitation - including learning to walk again - after being injured on duty.
As an ambassador for Sports Connections Foundation, she will be speaking to children and young people about how sport can inspire and break down barriers.
She will also be supporting the charity’s key initiatives, such as Sporting Wishes, which makes dreams come true for children facing life-limiting illnesses.
Kimberley said: “Being an ambassador is going to be really fulfilling.
“I’m especially looking forward to getting involved with Sporting Wishes, which sounds amazing.
“The thought of giving something back and helping to fulfil dreams through sport is such a massive thing.”
Income and Engagement Manager at Sports Connections Foundation Karen Olden said the charity was thrilled to be working with Kimberley.
She added: “Kimberley has an incredible story and can use her skills and experience to inspire and mentor young people.
“A lot of our work is about building confidence, self esteem and inspiring young people to pursue their dreams and develop inherent potential and Kimberley’s values and principles really complement what we do.
“We’re so grateful for the help and support we get from our ambassadors and it’s amazing to have Kimberley on board. It will make such a difference to the children and young people we work with.”
