At Sports Connections Foundation we are always on the look out for new sponsors, partners and ambassadors, not just in the world of sport but music and business as well.
We are proud to announce that we have a new Charity Ambassador who has joined our growing list of celebrity friends, British singer Kyla Reid.
On April 6th 2016 Drake (you may have heard of him) released his single One Dance. The single is the second longest consecutive number one in the UK, was the best performing single worldwide of 2016, and has clocked up an incredible 1 BILLION streams on Spotify, 3 years ago you couldn't turn on a radio, walk in to a shop or go for a night out without hearing the song at least once! Upon hearing the song for the first time, those of us with an ear for UK Funky music will have instantly recognised the sample that Drake used on the song, the catchy 'baby, I like your style' hook was first heard in 2008 on the song 'Do You Mind' by Kyla.
Kyla had all but stopped releasing music before Drake asked to use her song as a sample, she had just started a family and was working as an ESL teacher but after the success of 'One Dance' her career has been given a reboot, which saw her release her latest single 'Eyes' at the end of 2018.
Kyla is a good friend of ours at SCF, she's been kind enough to host a Q&A session at St. Peter's School in Huntingdon (her old school!) and she even came down to Addenbrookes with us on our latest trip there in April, signing pictures as well as posing for them with some very brave children and after our trip I had a quick chat with her about herself, her career and also why she's decided to become an ambassador of our Children's charity
